Queen's Blood Card Game

Design

Reconstruction of an awesome digital card game from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in order to bring it to life with physical cards, tokens and board.

Queen's Blood is a card mini-game made by SquareEnix and found in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth for Playstation 5, with many enthusiastic fans all over the world. However, it only exists in its digital form and can only be played by one player, without any PVP whatsoever. Some people have also recreated the cards, but for this project, I wanted to keep it as close to the actual digital game as possible.

The images for all the cards were by far the hardest part of this whole thing, since not only were they only available through in-game screenshots and marketing assets, but they needed to be cut from the background to properly mimick the visuals of the in-game card layout.
All assets were then made available to anyone interested in playing with their friends. If you are a fan reading this, you can download the assets clicking the button below.

In order to bring the game into the physical world, some adaptations had to be made. Blue, Red and Neutral +1, +2 and -1 chips had to be used and to keep track of the points, a point tracker was added, by ordering through a 3D printing service.

All cards and assets had to be recreated from scratch, including the game's 3D logo and the two special cards (Shadowblood Queen and Emerald Witch). There were a total of 166 cards designed for each deck, including 85 standard cards, 58 legendary cards, 2 special cards and 21 token cards.

Even tough there was a ton of work involved, it was worth it to be able to play the game in real life with friends and family and to be able to share the assets so other people can enjoy the physical game as well.
